The Eastern Washington Eagles -- yes, the team with the red turf field -- beat the defending champion Villanova Wildcats 41-31 to advance to the FCS National Championship Game. Nova was able to keep the scoreboard dials turning (this is FCS football), but a marvelous six Nova turnovers crushed any hopes of a repeat title game apperance.

EWU QB Bo Levi Mitchell led the way with 292 yards through the air, backed up by RB Mario Brown's 105 on the ground.

If the Georgia Southern Eagles can get past Delaware's surgical passing game tomorrow at noon, they'll get to take on EWU. Minus that blood-red home field advantage, too. And if you don't think it helps, might I remind you how many times and with what exasperating randomness Villanova turned the ball over tonight? And who wouldn't want to see Eagles vs. Eagles for the title, Commie?

(Holiday bonus: the Mrs. declared it Gingerbread House Night at our place while the game was on, so I cranked out a Gingerbread Eastern Washington Stadium.)
