Georgia Southern Recruiting: Martrez Eastland Left Ole Miss For Eagles

The Chattanooga Free Press caught up with former Ole Miss Martrez Eastland yesterday and he is enrolled at Georgia Southern and will join the football program for the 2011 season.

The 6’1, 235lbs former Ringgold HS star signed with Ole Miss but had limited playing time on special times and carried the ball once in the Rebel spread scheme.

Ringgold Head Coach Robert Atkins confirmed the transfer and discussed Eastland’s rationale for heading to Statesboro:

“They hardly ever used a fullback this year, and Martez, like any player, wanted to get on the field,” Akins said. “He really wanted to go to Georgia Southern before Ole Miss offered, so he’s excited about the opportunity. They will definitely use him in that [option] offense.”

Eastland fits the Flexbone very well as a B-Back and was listed by Rivals.com as the #4 FB in the country in 2009.
