The Georgia Southern Eagles made the 2011 FCS playoff field by being the SoCon champion and have earned a No. 3 seed, which allows them to host a game as well as have a first round bye. The FCS playoff begins on Saturday Nov. 26 with the opening round games. Georgia Southern will host the winner of the Old Dominion Monarchs vs. Norfolk St. Spartans on Saturday Dec. 3. The Georgia Southern game time has yet to be determined, but their game will air on ESPN3.
There was another SoCon team to make the field: the Appalachian St. Mountaineers, who earned a spot in the second round and will face the Maine Black Bears.
There also will be new champion this year since the 2010 champion Eastern Washington Eagles did not make the playoffs. The CAA leads the way with five of the 20 teams selected, followed by the SoCon's two. Here's a printable version of the bracket.
Bubble teams who failed to make the cut: Illinois State, No. 16 Liberty, 9-2, Jackson State and No. 17 Delaware, which had two wins against tourney teams. Also, every game of the tournament will broadcast on an ESPN outlet. The championship game will take place in Frisco, Texas on Jan. 7.
