FCS Playoffs 2011: Georgia Southern Defeats Old Dominion 55-48

The Georgia Southern Eagles was able to break away from the back and forth scoring of this game in the fourth quarter to outscore the Old Dominion Monarchs and move onto the quarterfinals of the FCS playoffs. This game was an offensive showcase as both teams combined for 1,167 yards and 103 points. Neither team led by more than seven points. That is until Georgia Southern scored at the end of the third quarter and made a defensive stop to score again in the fourth quarter to go up 14 points. 

Old Dominion was never able to make that key defensive stop in the fourth quarter and trailed from the end of the third quarter and for the rest of the game.

Georgia Southern was able to use the running game to get past Old Dominion as they rushed for 477 yards and seven of the eight touchdowns came from running game. The leader on the ground was Dominique Swope who ran the ball 31 times for 255 yards and scored four touchdowns to lead Georgia Southern to victory.

With the win Georgia Southern moves onto the quarterfinals of the FCS playoffs where they will play either Appalachian State or Maine.
