Georgia Southern defensive lineman Brent Russell has been one of the anchors on a defense that has been tough on opposing offenses, and Eagles head coach Jeff Monken recently spoke highly of Russell's efforts.
"He's a good leader because he's so doggone competitive. I think everyone that watches us play recognizes the fact he loves to play," Monken said. "He's a good player. He plays with a lot of emotion, passion."
Russell has 22 tackles this season, including 5.5 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks. Georgia Southern ranks third in the Football Championship Subdivision in total defense, 10th in rushing defense and ninth in pass efficiency defense.
The Eagles have limited opponents to 99.6 rushing yards per game, but they'll be tested by the Wofford Terriers this weekend. Wofford comes into the matchup with the top ground game in the FCS -- the Terriers are averaging 448.8 rushing yards per game. Georgia Southern has the nation's No. 2 rushing offense.
