In one of the most important conferences in the FCS, there is a race at the top of the standings. The Southern Conference has several teams in contention for the league title as the season hits mid-October.

The top two teams, Georgia Southern and Wofford, will meet this week with first place on the line.

The full standings are below:

Team Conference record Overall record
Wofford 3-0 5-0
Georgia Southern 3-1 4-1
Samford 3-1 5-1
Appalachian State 2-1 4-2
Chattanooga 1-1 2-3
Citadel 2-2 3-3
Furman 1-2 2-4
Elon 0-2 2-4
Western Carolina 0-4 1-5

If Georgia Southern beats Wofford on Saturday, it will have already beaten the Terriers and Samford. A date with Appalachian State looms on Nov. 3, that could be for the conference title.

Every team in the Southern Conference plays each other once. There is no title game but several teams are expected to make the FCS playoffs from the conference.
