The Georgia Southern Eagles host the Appalachian State Mountaineers this weekend with at least a share of the Southern Conference title on the line. The Eagles are in first place with a 6-1 league record, and a win over ASU would guarantee a tie for first at minimum, as the Wofford Terriers are the only other team that can reach 7-1.
Appalachian State comes into the week 6-3 overall and 4-2 in conference play. The Mountaineers rank No. 10 in total offense in the Football Championship Subdivision with a relatively balanced attack that is averaging 268.9 passing yards and 196.9 rushing yards per game. But they are just No. 88 in total defense, and No. 94 in rushing defense.
Georgia Southern features one of the nation's top ground games, with an average of 387.1 rushing yards per contest. The Eagles lost to Appalachian State 24-17 last season, as they were limited to just 135 yards on the ground.
The game Saturday kicks off at 2 p.m. ET.
