Junior forward Eric Ferguson scored 23 points for the Georgia Southern Eagles on Saturday, but the rest of his team didn't score much and dropped its second straight conference game to the Samford Bulldogs, 57-48.
Ferguson was lights out from the floor, going 9-for-11 from the field and a perfect 3-for-3 from the free-throw line. He led all scorers in the game with 23 points, adding eight rebounds, three steals and a block.
Georgia State and Samford went into halftime tied at 26. The Bulldogs pulled away quickly in the second half and never looked back, outscoring the Eagles 31-22.
But for all the shots going in for Ferguson, it wasn't translating to the rest of the Eagles. The rest of the team shot just 32 percent from the floor and an aggressive Bulldogs team that consistently made it to the free-throw line doomed the Eagles.
Samford went 19-for-25 from the free-throw line compared with just 3-for-6 for Georgia Southern. Georgia Southern is now 2-5 overall and 0-2 in conference play.
