The Georgia Southern Eagles went on the road to Blacksburg on Saturday afternoon and came away with a 78-73 upset win over the Virginia Tech Hokies. Georgia Southern had a big lead in the second half, but Virginia Tech came back to make it close at the end. However, they ultimately fell just short.
The big difference between the two teams in the game was that the Eagles shot over 44% from three point range as a team, while the Hokies shot only 24% from deep.
C.J. Reed led the Eagles with 22 points and four assists, and Cleon Roberts had 20 points and four rebounds. This is Georgia Southern's biggest win of the season by far, and gives them some momentum before they head into their SoCon schedule.
Erick Green led the Hokies with 28 points and seven rebounds, and Jarrell Eddie had 21 points and eight rebounds. The loss is Virginia Tech's first at home this season, and only their second loss overall.
The Eagles play again on Monday, when they travel to Bradley to face the Braves.
