The Georgia Southern Eagles have been one of the best programs at the FCS level for years now, and speculation about a move up to FBS has been around for nearly just as long. However, with the recent defections in the Sun Belt, the time may be approaching for the Eagles to make the jump.
According to Mike Brown of the Macon Telegraph, Georgia Southern would accept an invitation to the Sun Belt if one was extended to them. The recent conference realignment shakeup has included Middle Tennessee State and Florida Atlantic leaving the Sun Belt for Conference USA, so that invitation could come soon.
Athletic director Tom Kleinlein has said that the school has been in contact with the Sun Belt already. Though some have speculated that GSU would make a move at some point, the likelihood of one wasn't very high until Kleinlein took over as AD in November. The Eagles have been in the Southern Conference since 1992.
