NCAA Bracket Update, VCU Vs. Georgetown: Rams Spank Hoyas 74-56

VCU likely shut the mouths of many who said that the No. 11 seed didn’t belong in the NCAA Basketball Tournament after a decisive rout of No. 6 seed Georgetown 74-56 in Chicago on Friday night.

The Rams’ Brandon Rozzell chose a great time to tie his career high in points with 26 including six 3 point buckets. Joey Rodriguez dropped 17 points and dished out seven assists shaking off a personal two game slump. In his previous two games versus UAB in the First Four and ODU in the CAA Tournament, he was a combined 6-22 from the field for 16 points.

Rozzell explained it's not just the guys in black and gold he's playing for:

"I think we're playing for all the mid-majors across the country, not just our conference (Colonial Athletic Association)  but everywhere," Rozzell said. "I think we're doing a good job for our conference, specifically."
Georgetown continued an awful 24 hours for the Big East who loses it’s 3rd team. The Hoyas were absolutely dragged up and down the court losing their 3rd straight opening round game. Hollis Thompson was the lone bright spot off the bench scoring 26 points on 8-10 shooting including four shots from 3 point range. G’town leading scorer Austin Freeman ends his career with an outing he’ll have a hard time shaking off as he throws a 3-14 from the field and 0-7 from deep.

VCU moves on to face No. 3 seeded Purdue on Sunday at 7:10pm EST for a trip to the Sweet Sixteen.
