Georgia State Vs. Old Dominion: Panthers Fall Hard 40-17

Georgia State football entered Week 2 and hoped for a different result than 2010.  It got much worse this year as the Panthers were dropped 40-17 to the Old Dominion Monarchs in the Georgia Dome.

Two blocked punts and three total interceptions thrown by Panthers' quarterbacks Bo Schlechter and Drew Little gave Old Dominion the extra opportunities to pummel Georgia State into submission.  GSU head coach Bill Curry was just not sure why the Panthers don't bring it vs. ODU:

“I would love to play a good game against ODU someday but we seem to save our worst for ODU.  So hats off to a good job by [Old Dominion]. We didn’t find out today just how good they are because we really didn’t test them. We gave them opportunities at every turn and they took advantage.”

The Panther defense was helpless slowing the ODU rushing attack as the visitors from Norfolk attempted 54 rushes for 277 yards and three touchdowns. Monarch running back Colby Goodwyn racked up 190 yards on 26 carries mauling the Georgia State front seven.

The second and third quarters in the last two matchups between these two foes have been a complete ODU blitz as the Monarchs hold a 54-7 advantage in these combined 60 minutes.  Georgia State went three plays and out an amazing eight times giving the Monarchs opportunity after opportunity.

Georgia State looks to rebound on the road next Saturday against nationally ranked Jacksonville State (3:30 EST on CSS).
