Both Georgia State and Old Dominion will be leaving the Colonial Athletic Association for the 2013-14 season and today they learned that during their final season they cannot compete for any CAA titles.
Georgia State, who is set to join the Sun Belt conference in a little over a year, might try to quicken that process, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Now that the CAA has ruled the Panthers are ineligible to compete in its tournament championships, Sun Belt Commissioner Karl Benson said he expects they will re-visit those discussions. He said the Sun Belt would like to accommodate Georgia State, as long as doing so doesn’t disrupt the schedules that are complete, notably men’s and women’s basketball and volleyball. Benson declined to say if it could be done because Georgia State hasn’t approached him.
Old Dominion is leaving for Conference USA and might try a similar plan.
