Georgia Tech vs. Georgia: Plenty of familiarity between both sides

Georgia Tech and Georgia feature plenty players and coaches who have played with or against each other in the past.

In addition to the many players who were teammates or foes in high school reuniting in Saturday's meeting between the Georgia Bulldogs and Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, a pair of coaches who played on the same team in college will be on opposite sides in the rivalry game, as well.

Georgia defensive line coach Rodney Garner and Georgia Tech interim defensive coordinator Charles Kelly were teammates at Auburn more than 20 years ago, graduating together in 1990. Now, they'll oppose each other at Sanford Stadium on Saturday, with Georgia's national title hopes hanging in the balance.

Garner, who was in Kelly's wedding, told Dog Bytes Online's Marc Weiszer that he doesn't get to see his friend as often as he'd like due to the profession in which the pair of college buddies are involved. Still, Garner found time to congratulate Kelly after he was promoted to his current position after the firing of Al Groh:

"That's my little bald-headed buddy. You probably can't say that to Paul (Johnson), but that is my brother. Always will be my brother. I'm proud of him ... We understand when we get between the lines what it's all about, but at the same time it's still my brother."

The Bulldogs and Yellow Jackets will kick off Saturday's game at 12 p.m. ET on ESPN.
