In the season finale against the Georgia Bulldogs, the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets are big underdogs, but can still spoil the season of an in-state rival with an upset victory. Georgia Tech Head Coach Paul Johnson is pulling out all the stops he can to prepare for the game and that included giving a phone call to Georgia Southern Head Coach Jeff Monken.
Monken told Ken Sugiura of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that he's pulling for Johnson, whom he worked with for 15 years, and the Yellow Jackets and talked of the scouting tips he offered:
"I think the one thing you can get is who played these certain kinds of blocks the best, in the secondary, who was their best cover guy, who in their defensive line did you think was easier to knock off the ball than another guy," Monken said. "Who was real stout and you had real trouble getting movement on. Just those things that you can't see on film. I think those things are valuable."
Georgia Southern runs a similar, triple option-style offense and tried to have success against the Georgia Bulldogs defense in a 45-14 loss earlier in the season. Facing the No. 20 defense in the FBS, the Yellow Jackets will need its spread option to work better than GSU's did earlier in the year.
Saturday's game is scheduled to kickoff at 12 p.m. ET on ESPN.
