WSJ Ranks Georgia Tech's Drummer Girl Commercial Among Nation's Best

New, 1 comment

The Wall Street Journal's Darren Everson judges a selection of those college promo ads that play during games. High marks go to the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets commercial in which a female student plays "Ramblin' Wreck from Georgia Tech" on drums, accompanied by a robot. And, yes, when a school that's over two-thirds male markets itself with a female lead, the performer's gender is worth noting.

The commercial, if you haven't seen it, which means you haven't seen any Tech games at all because these things play every five minutes:

Among others mentioned by the WSJ: thumbs up to the Missouri Tigers Jon Hamm ad, thumbs down to the Middle Tennessee St. Blue Raiders spot featuring empty football seats. The pick for best ad goes to the Minnesota Golden Gophers, who are also currently airing want ads for a new head coach. Last year Tech's tricycle rockets or whatever commercial won an Emmy.
