A fake punt by Duke's Alex King converted a long fourth down conversion for the Blue Devils at midfield, and it set up a touchdown run by Brandon Connette. The kicker had the option to run if he wanted, and the entire right side of the Tech line dropped back to set up protection, leaving the run wide open.
It appeared that the Tech defenders had knocked the ball loose at the 2 yard line and then recovered the ball in the end zone, but a long review confirmed the call. The ball was jarred before the end zone, but the refs ruled that Connette still had control of the ball with his elbow before it came out. Not many in the stadium agreed though.
The storyline from the season is continuing today. Penalties, mental errors, bad bounces, dropped passes, and the lack of the big play are all killing the Jackets
