Late in the third, the Florida St. Seminoles took their first lead over the Maryland Terrapins since the game’s 16th minute, going up 20-16. A 44-yard Christian Ponder pass to WR Bert Reed broke the back-and-forth field goal fest.
Virtually every line of this game’s box score is just about even on both sides. The Noles have been a little bit more efficient through the air, but the Terps have gained a couple more first downs. Maryland’s lack of big plays has also given them a five-minute time of possession advantage, but FSU is driving a little bit right now so that’s about to even up. I’m saying this has been a very close game.
Maryland has sacked Ponder four times, while FSU’s ACC-best pass rush only has one sack. There we go, there’s one big difference. A game this close could come down to a field goal a la last week, when FSU kicker Dustin Hopkins launched a 55-yarder to beat the Clemson Tigers. Hopkins has already missed two tonight, including one from 52 like ten seconds ago to give the ball back to Maryland in decent position.
