The ACC Championship Game picture, which was as confusing as The Anthology of Rap's transcription errors only two weeks ago, is now about as clear as it gets. The Virginia Tech Hokies are in, having won the Coastal Division for the fourth time in six years by beating the Miami Hurricanes. With us so far?
The Florida St. Seminoles just beat the Maryland Terrapins, removing this week's contestant from the ACC Atlantic Division Suicide Pool. It's now down to the Noles and the N.C. State Wolfpack. The Pack play Maryland this week -- if N.C. State wins, they're in. If Maryland wins, FSU is in. Not so bad.
The game between Maryland and N.C. State is at Byrd Stadium, but the Terps haven't beaten a team with a winning conference record all year. Three of their four ACC wins came against teams that have one conference win, while N.C. State has beaten FSU, the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, and the North Carolina Tar Heels, plus the Central Florida Knights, who might win Conference USA. It's the little things.
Pack QB Russell Wilson and LB Nate Irving are two of the best players in this conference. I think we're looking at a rematch of VT's Oct. 2 win over the Wolfpack, when the Hokies trailed by six going into the fourth quarter.
