After a quick review of Rivals recruiting database (at the suggestion of our own Ben Moore), I realized Stephon Tuitt would be the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets first-ever Rivals five-star recruit if he does indeed switch on Notre Dame. Ratings history goes back to 2002.
Not only is Tuitt one of the nation’s most sought-after players, he’s also the top-rated player in the state of Georgia. For a recruiting class that was looking to be nothing extraordinary despite a couple big names, a Tuitt switch would bring things up to speed in a hurry. It’s already boosted the class from No. 50 to No. 30. Only 11 schools have five-star commits at this point, and only two others in the ACC, and Tech is by far the lowest, but whatever man.
As we always remind ourselves, stars are no guarantee of results. Tech may never sign a player better than Calvin Johnson, who was only a four-star receiver out of Tyrone, Georgia but went on to become a Heisman Trophy finalist.
