Jeff Allen scored 12 points while Victor Davila added 10 points helping stake Virginia Tech to a three point half time lead 39-36 over Georgia Tech in Atlanta. The Hokies have to be pleased to be leading in the game with leading scorer Malcolm Delaney only having scored two points on just 1 of 7 shooting from the field.
For the Jackets, Brian Oliver came off the bench to score 13 points and helped to keep the Yellow Jackets in the game. Iman Shumpert is more than half way to a triple double scoring eight points, grabbing six rebounds, and handing out seven assists.
Both teams shot exceptionally well with Georgia Tech connecting on a blistering 57% of its shots in the first half. Virginia Tech made 52% of its shots. The Yellow Jackets have done a lot of their damage from the perimeter while the Hokies have established an inside game. Georgia Tech connected on 4-11 three point attempts but went 0-3 from the free throw line in the first half. Virginia Tech didn't make a three point basket in the first half going 0-5 but made up part of the difference by going 7 of 8 from the free throw line.
Neither team was able to go on an extended run during the first half. Georgia Tech will have to shore up its interior defense while continuing to push the pace against the Virginia Tech zone in the second half if they hope to pull out a home victory.
