Georgia Tech Recruiting: Jamal Golden, Alabama Player Of The Year, Commits To Jackets

Wetumpka, Alabama athlete Jamal Golden has committed to becoming the 18th member of the 2011 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets football class, according to Scout.com’s Dale McDuffie. Though Rivals only has him rated as a two-star player, he was named Gatorade’s Alabama Player of the Year, Old Spice Player of the Year, and Alabama Sportswriters 6A Back of the Year, according to Chip Towers, and is a candidate for Mr. Football Alabama.

Golden’s other offers were from Arkansas State, Illinois, Memphis, Southern Miss, and Troy, though he was also recruited by Auburn.

Something about those awards doesn’t square with those offers and that rating, but all right.

He’s a former high school teammate of Tech QB Tevin Washington, and took over the starting spot once Washington moved on. He’ll be playing defensive back and special teams at Tech, with a chance to return kicks.

Golden accounted for 3,499 yards and 37 touchdowns during his senior year. He stands an even six-feet tall and has been clocked at 4.5 in the 40-yard dash.
