Georgia Tech appears to be headed on a collision course with Clemson as an ACC Championship game preview. That is, unless a surprising Wake Forest squad crashes the party.
Georgia Tech's 21-16 victory over Maryland might not have been the Yellow Jackets' sharpest performance of the season but the victory moved them to 6-0 on the season and 3-0 in the ACC Coastal division. Duke is second in the division at 1-0 while North Carolina and Virginia Tech are both 1-1. Miami sunk to 0-2 after falling to the Hokies in Blacksburg.
While Georgia Tech is enjoying some separation in the Coastal, the Atlantic division of the ACC is a two horse race at the top thanks to the great start by Wake Forest. On Saturday, the Demon Deacons handed Florida State its third straight loss overall and dropped them to 0-2 in the conference. Wake Forest joins Clemson at the top of the division with a 3-0 record.
Georgia Tech, Clemson and Wake Forest have combined for nine wins this season and five ACC teams are still in search of their first win in the conference. Besides the Hurricanes and the Noles, Boston College (0-3), N.C. State (0-2) and Virginia (0-1) are all looking for their first conference win in 2011.
