ACC Realignment: Expanded Basketball Tournament Likely Five Days With All 14 Teams

With Syracuse and Pitt now in the fold, the ACC Tournament could overtake the Big East's.

While conference expansion has been driven completely by football, the eventual additions of Syracuse and Pittsburgh to the ACC will have some interesting ramifications for basketball as well:

While the Big East Tournament in Madison Square Garden has long been the most prominent conference championship tournament in college basketball, after taking two of its premier basketball programs, the ACC Tournament could soon surpass it.

Currently, the top four teams receive byes into the quarterfinals, but the format will have to change if the tournament is expanded to five days to include 14 teams instead of 12.
