As the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets prepares to do battle with the Maryland Terrapins in Bobby Dodd Stadium this Saturday at Noon, one thing is evidently clear. Things were a lot different in 2007.
The head coach of the Yellow Jackets in 2007 was Chan Gailey, not Paul Johnson. The head coach of the Terrapins in 2007 was Ralph Friedgen, not Randy Edsall. In 2007, Georgia Tech was a middle of the road team at 3-2, now they boast an undefeated 5-0 record and a No. 13 national ranking. In 2007, Maryland was outfitted with run of the mill apparel by Nike. In 2011, they've signed up with Under Armour and become outfitted with the most striking uniforms in college football.
Georgia Tech comes into this matchup with a 13-6 series lead against Maryland, including winning three of the last four. In the last matchup in 2007, Maryland defeated Georgia Tech 28-26 as the Terps raced out to a 21-3 early in the second quarter. Tech stormed back behind Tashard Choice's 135 rushing yards and Demaryius Thomas' 139 receiving yards and closed the gap to 28-26 late in the fourth quarter. Down by two, Gailey called for the two-point conversion which ultimately failed, thus losing the game for the Yellow Jackets.
