The No. 13 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets have reached the point at which people are starting to worry about the ACC being seconds away from implosion. This is a good sign! It's always darkest before the dawn! And so forth!
From Andy Hutchins' look at what hell may be raised on the nation's top 25 rankings in this week of college football:
If Georgia Tech wins: The nation's highest-scoring team keeps its run to an ACC crown blemish-free. The Yellow Jackets get both Clemson and Virginia Tech at home.
If Maryland wins: The ACC Coastal Division looks like a complete mess. Georgia Tech and Virginia Tech would be one-loss teams that could still control their own destinies, but Duke might be the only team without a loss in the division. And Duke lost to Richmond.
The Jackets started the week favored by two touchdowns, and that line's only gone up as news came out that the Maryland Terrapins may be without their best defender and may have a little bit of a morale issue. Not entirely comfortable with Tech favored by that many points, especially since their best win so far was by one touchdown over a headless UNC team.
For the sake of ACC standings sanctity, one will have to hope the Jackets can get it done against a possibly overlooked opponent.
