2011 Sun Bowl: Georgia Tech Vs. Utah Cannot Be Worse Than The 2008 Sun Bowl

The 2011 Sun Bowl matches a Georgia Tech team that began the 2011 college football season as one of the nation's most explosive teams with a Utah squad that scored 30 points in three of its last four games (before scoring just 14 points in its regular season finale against Colorado, but whatever). That already puts the game on pace to be better than the 2008 Sun Bowl, one of the all-time benchmarks for bowl season futility.

In that game, Oregon State beat Pittsburgh, 3-0. The two teams combined for 451 yards of total offense, and that was one of their more respectable numbers. They also completed 30 of a combined 71 passes, converted a combined five of 32 third down tries, had no plays of over 30 yards, and punted 20 times combined. Both teams were ranked heading into the game, and produced a rank spectacle that was the lowest-scoring bowl game since 1959.

So chin up, Yellow Jackets and Utes. There's only an infinitesimal chance that you will end up playing the least inspiring Sun Bowl ever.
