Georgia Tech Recruiting: Airyn Willis To Wake Forest On National Signing Day's Eve?

UPDATE: Airyn Willis might be sticking around after all. Wait and see!

Longtime Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets football commit Airyn Willis, a three-star North Carolina QB who projects as a college WR, now expects to sign with the Wake Forest Demon Deacons on national signing day. According to the report he wants to play as a slot receiver, which is not featured in Paul Johnson’s offense.

These things happen, but they’re happening rapidly and on both sides of the ball for Tech’s 2011 class. Defensive linemen Trey Flowers and Tre Jackson left the class over the past weekend. It looks like a series of coincidences, with each living for different reasons, but it’s hard to avoid feeling concern for what’s happening here.

Tech is now down to one projected wide receiver in this class, three-star Jeff Greene. Willis has been a Tech commit for almost an entire calendar year, committing to the Jackets in April. Still, he’s reportedly only “99.9 percent” set on going to Wake, so we’ll see.
