The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets aren’t expected to get a lot of National Signing Day surprises, because it’s not a surprise if you expect it, bro. What I meant was the Jackets’ class is believed to be more or less set, pending a possible Airyn Willis de-commit. But Tech fans should pay attention to Darian Cooper and Stephon Tuitt tomorrow.
Yes, that Tuitt. More on him in a second. Cooper is a three-star DT from Maryland, the nation’s No. 33 at his position. He sounds like a bright young man, fretting about the lack of corporate internships available at Iowa, another school in the running. Michigan and Michigan State are also making strong pushes for his services, and I’m trying to figure out what’s so B2g T1n about him.
Either way, Tech needs defensive linemen. Badly. His letter of intent is already in the mail, though he’ll wait until tomorrow to announce.
The Tuitt saga, featuring de-commits from both Tech and Notre Dame, is not over until ink meets paper. He sounds committed to the Irish here, while admitting that Notre Dame is indeed Mama’s choice, but let’s wait to see how this one ends.
Tuitt is in Austin for the Team USA vs. The World game, which features multiple fellow Irish commits.
Update: There are some conflicting rumors out there about when Tuitt is actually going to sign. Irish Illustrated and MaxPreps both say that he will send the fax tomorrow from Austin, while there is some speculation that he is going to wait until Friday. At this point, it will be a huge surprise if Tuitt flips back to Tech in the coming days, but as Keith Arnold of NBC Sports said, "I think the Irish coaching staff will breath a huge sigh of relief when Tuitt's fax comes through."
