After the opening burst of games in the 2011 NCAA Women’s Tournament, the No. 5 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, No.1 Tennessee Volunteers, No. 10 Marist Red Foxes, and No. 6 Penn St. Nittany Lions have made their way to the second round. Tech and the Lady Vols advance in the Dayton region, while Penn State and Marist move forward in the Philadelphia region.
Tech topped No. 12 Bowling Green 69-58 in Columbus to earn a date against either No. 4 Ohio State or No. 13 UCF. Sasha Goodlett led the Lady Jackets in scoring with 19 points, while Alex Montgomery added an impressive 14 points and 11 rebounds. Tech dominated the glass, grabbing 15 offensive boards, and forced 24 turnovers.
Tennessee walloped Stetson 99-34 to get the winner of Marquette and Texas, Marist upset Iowa State 74-66 to earn a likely matchup against Duke, and Penn State handled Dayton 75-66 to draw either DePaul or Navy.
