College Baseball Rankings: Georgia Tech Closes In On National Seed

The weekly NCAA college baseball rankings are out, and the Virginia Cavaliers maintained their spot on top with a series win over a quality Miami team. Virginia has a tough road matchup against North Carolina this upcoming weekend which could potentially knock them off the top spot.

Both ESPN/USA Today and Perfect Game have South Carolina at No. 2, who went 4-1 last week with victories over Charleston Southern and Presbyterian before a weekend series win against SEC foe Arkansas.

ESPN rounds out their top ten with Vanderbilt, Florida, Texas, Florida State, Oregon State, Oklahoma, TCU, and CS Fullterton. ACC schools in the rankings include No. 13 North Carolina, No. 14 Georgia Tech, No. 15 Clemson, and No. 22 Miami. Arkansas comes in at No. 18, making the Razorbacks the only SEC team to be ranked outside of the top ten.

Perfect Game ranks Georgia Tech No. 8, and says that the Jackets have a good shot at a national seed:

The Yellow Jackets likely put themselves in good shape for a national seed over the weekend. They began last week with a pair of wins over Illinois-Chicago and Savannah State before taking two of three from North Carolina.

The RPI rankings haven't been updated yet, but Tech's victory over North Carolina should only improve on last week's No. 9 ranking. Wins in a midweek game with RPI No. 32 East Tennessee State and the conference finale at No. 77 Virginia Tech this weekend could solidify that top eight seed for the Jackets.
