This week's batch of college football rankings is out. The AP top 25 has the LSU Tigers as its new No. 1, and I can't think of a single explanation for any other team holding that spot right now. The coaches' poll thinks otherwise, of course, as the coaches' poll always travels at least two weeks behind reality.

The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets move from the bottom of the top 25 to No. 21 in both polls. Some (including yours truly) were cautious after they plastered three terrible teams (seriously, Division I-AA Georgia Southern just beat Western Carolina about as badly as Tech did), but a solid win over a talented-but-afflicted North Carolina Tar Heels is decent evidence. One win that matters and three blowouts is good enough for No. 21.

Look for the Georgia Bulldogs to near a return to the rankings if they can beat the Mississippi St. Bulldogs next week, while a Tech win over the N.C. State Wolfpack would ... well, somebody ahead of them will probably lose.
