If the 2012 ACC football schedule isn't released soon, it's going to have more release dates than Dr. Dre's "Detox" album, which has been "on the way" since 2002. According to the AJC, the latest hold-up comes from Georgia Tech, who need to delay the schedule at least one more week in order to figure out their non-conference opponents. Tomahawk Nation also reports that the schedule won't be released until next week.
If the Yellow Jackets play Virginia Tech on Labor Day, they don't want to face a non-conference opponent who can take advantage of the short week following a Monday night game.
The list of acceptable opponents apparently does not include Middle Tennessee State, the Sun Belt team Georgia Tech initially scheduled, and who are coming off a 2-10 season in 2011.
It's been reported that the Yellow Jackets are trying to either move the MTSU game or schedule a second non-conference game against an FCS team in its place.
To be fair, it's understandable why Paul Johnson wants to ensure a second guaranteed win out-of-conference given that his team is facing both Georgia and BYU in 2012.
