Running backs will put up offensive numbers in Paul Johnson's triple option offense, so it's no surprise that yet another Georgia Tech RB, Orwin Smith, is one of the 52 players on the 2012 Doak Walker Award Watch List.
Smith, a 6'0 200 junior from Phoenix City, Alabama, was the Yellow Jackets third-string RB in 2011. However, despite being the third option behind Tevin Washington and David Sims, he still rushed for 615 yards and 11 TD's on 61 carriers.
His 10.1 yards per carry average was by far the highest of any of Georgia Tech's runners and it will be interesting to see how much of Smith's big-play ability will remain with a much heavier workload in 2012.
However, for Smith to seriously contend for the Doak Walker, his runs will have to get the Yellow Jackets into the ACC title hunt, as voters will dismiss them as a product of Johnson's offense otherwise.
