The Players Championship 2012: Ian Poulter and Martin Laird Lead, Matt Kuchar 4-Under

Sawgrass had been known to leave victims in its wake.

But Ian Poulter and Martin Laird had little trouble in the first round of The Players Championship on Thursday. The pair each shot a 7-under 65 and sit atop the leaderboard after one day. They both birdied every par 5 and Poulter made first straight birdies at one point, while Laird didn't have a bogey.

Former Georgia Tech All-American Chris Kuchar is tied for sixth after shooting a 4-under 68. He shot a 34 on both the front and back nine. Another former Yellow Jacket, Stewart Cink is at 1-under.

Of course, the most notable golfer at the tournament is Tiger Woods. But Woods shot a 2-over 74 and is in danger of missing another cut, something that surely will be a media focus on Friday.
