2012 U.S. Open Leaderboard Update: Michael Thompson Leads, Tiger Woods Under Par

The Olympic Club sure hasn't been kind to the world's best golfers. So far in the 2012 U.S. Open, only three golfers are under par in the first round of play.

Michael Thompson currently leads the field with a -3 score through 17 holes. Tiger Woods and David Toms are the only other two golfers under par. Both Woods and Toms are -1, with Woods' score through 16 holes and Toms' score through 17.

The other two members of Woods' superstar grouping aren't having a fun day. Phil Mickelson sits at +6 through 17, while Bubba Watson is an even worse +8. Both golfers will need some sort of miracle to crawl back into contention.

Some of the tournament's favorites, such as Rory McIlroy and Lee Westwood, have yet to tee off, so we'll see if the course remains unkind throughout the afternoon.
