2012 NBA power rankings: Hawks move up

A solid week sees vertical movement in power rankings for the Atlanta Hawks.

The Atlanta Hawks went 2-1 last week, helping them move up in all of the big NBA power rankings.

In SB Nation's power rankings, Atlanta jumped two spots from No. 18 to No. 16 this week. Here's what Seth Rosenthal had to say about the 5-4 Hawks:

It seems like it'll take much longer for the Hawks to figure out their rotations and general pecking order (hawks don't really have pecking orders, so this will be tough). At least they're still playing decent defense in the meantime.

Atlanta moved up three spots in the ESPN power rankings. The Hawks were No. 12 last week, but find themselves at No. 9 now. That's even with forward Josh Smith not "playing up to J-Smoove standards."

The Hawks jumped four spots in the FOX Sports power rankings. In one week, Atlanta went from the No. 16 team to the No. 12 team. It's the highest mark the team has held on the FOX Sports power rankings this season.

Atlanta is the No. 13 team in the NBA.com power rankings. That's a two-spot improvement from last week. NBA.com noted how the Hawks' defense has been excellent this season, which is a big reason for this week's rank.

The Hawks are coming off an 81-72 win over the Orlando Magic on Monday. They are back in action Wednesday when they host the Washington Wizards at 7:30 p.m. ET.
