Josh Smith injury: Hawks forward sits out contact portion of Monday's practice

His status for Wednesday's game is unknown.

Atlanta Hawks forward Josh Smith did not participate at practice Monday, according to SB Nation's Peach Tree Hoops:

Josh Smith did not participate in the practice portion, doing some rehab work on the side instead, but did put some shots up early and watched film with the team.

Smith's status for Wednesday night's game against the Indiana Pacers is unknown.

Smith suffered an ankle injury against the Houston Rockets on Friday.

Hawks coach Larry Drew said Sunday he hoped Smith would be ready for the Pacers game.

Before Smith left Friday's game, he scored 18 points in 42 minutes of work. He hauled in 10 rebounds and blocked three shots.

Smith, who's in his ninth year with the Hawks and in the NBA, has been fairly healthy over his career. He played in all 66 games last season, averaging 18.8 points per game and 9.6 rebounds per game.

The Hawks host the Pacers on Wednesday, and then will be back in action Friday at home against the Miami Heat.

Atlanta has a tough stretch next week when it plays four games, all on the road. The stretch includes back-to-back games against the Clippers and Trail Blazers on Sunday and Monday.
