The Atlanta Hawks defeated the Washington Wizards, 104-95, on Friday night to improve to 11-5 on the season. The win was the Hawks' eighth in their past nine games.
Josh Smith led the way with 23 points and 15 rebounds for a Hawks team that only played nine guys. Behind Smith, the starters shouldered the load, scoring 86 of the team's 104 points. Al Horford came up big as well, finishing with 14 points and 14 rebounds.
The Hawks finished their homestand with a 4-1 record. Now, they'll have to keep the momentum going away from home, beginning a three-game road trip on Saturday against the Memphis Grizzlies.
Atlanta pulled to within a half-game behind the division-leading Miami Heat, who lost their second consecutive game on Thursday. Miami fell to the New York Knicks at home, 112-92. The Heat have five games left on their current homestand, and will face the Hawks on Monday in a big early-season meeting.
