New Kennesaw State Owls athletic director Vaughn Williams has previously named the Southern Conference and the Ohio Valley Conference as two potential destinations for the newly football-boasting Owls, whenever they may actually be football-boasting. SoCon speculation remains the more popular, with a Southern Conference beat writers' roundtable turning to Kennesaw State as "a way to tap into the Atlanta area."
(I realize this isn't the conference realignment news of the most widespread concern. Certain other things are going on around the country in that regard.)
The SoCon could be a great home for the Owls. Just look at the geography -- Kennesaw State would be right in the middle. Playing in the Southern Conference would enhance local recruiting opportunities better than playing against far-flung OVC teams would. Plus it would be excellent for Kennesaw State fans to get a look at the support enjoyed by Georgia Southern and Appalachian State (if they stick around long enough), the two finest programs in Division I-AA history.
