Fifty laps are complete in the Subway Fresh Fit 500 and the headliner of the week is most likely out of the race.
Trevor Bayne drifted in front of Travis Kvapil as the two Fords raced down the frontstretch. Bayne's No. 21 machine turned sideways and spun into the first corner, backing hard into the SAFER Barrier and doing extensive damage to the rear end of the car. Kvapil continued without incident.
Bayne has now crashed three cars in three days in Phoenix. A brake failure on his first lap of Sprint Cup practice Friday sent him careening into the turn three wall. He then blew a tire while running in the top-ten in yesterday's Nationwide 200-lapper and pounded the wall.
After massive attention and a whirlwind media tour following his Daytona 500 victory a week ago, it has been anything but the second act Bayne wanted.
