Kobalt Tools 400: Carl Edwards Leads With Fewer Than 100 Laps To Go, Jimmie Johnson Lurking, Trouble For Tony Stewart

With fewer 100 laps remaining in the Kobalt Tools 400, 2008 Las Vegas winner Carl Edwards holds the lead in his No. 99 Ford Fusion. Martin Truex Jr., Juan Pablo Montoya, Dale Earnhardt Jr., and Paul Menard round out the top five.

Edwards, who started third, assumed the lead when Tony Stewart, dominant throughout the race, was penalized to the rear of the field for tugging an impact wrench with him out of his pit stall on his last stop.

Also having problems was Greg Biffle, who ran out of gas and lost two laps while trying to get his car refired on pit road. He got one of the laps back by staying out when the leaders pitted following a vicious crash by David Gilliland, taking advantage of NASCAR's wave around rule, but he is still a lap off of his Roush-Fenway Racing teammate.

Jimmie Johnson, who had lost a lap just before the lap 100 mark, got back on the lead lap via a Lucky Dog Free Pass and has now cracked the top ten, running ninth.
