For the second time in the last two weeks, Georgia basketball has lost out on a top 100 power forward to a rival school. This time it was South Atlanta's Nick Jacobs who picked Alabama over Clemson, Georgia, and Florida. Georgia had earlier lost out on Milton High product Julian Royal to Georgia Tech.

“I liked all the schools, but picked Alabama because it was the best fit for me,” Jacobs said. “I had built a close relationship with Alabama’s coaches and players. I like Alabama because it’s a winning program and I know we have the talent to win an SEC championship.”

Had Jacobs decided to come to Georgia he would have joined a recruiting class that includes centers Tim Dixon of Oldsmar Christian and John Florveus of Hillsborough Community College both in Florida. Also committed to play for the Dawgs in 2011 is Nick Marshall who is a two sport star that will also play football along with one of the top players in the state of Georgia in Kentavious Caldwell.

When asked about Georgia Jacobs had this to say:

Regarding Georgia, Jacobs said he “loved the coaches and players” but wanted to play a little further from home.

South Atlanta high school product Nick Jacobs will announce his college decision sometime this afternoon. Georgia, Clemson, Florida, and Alabama are all thought to still be in the running. At this point though it is only Jacobs that truly knows who is leading the race. Jacobs has ties to Georgia given that his cousin is David Jacobs who played football for the Dawgs in Athens. ESPN.com has Jacobs ranked as the tenth best power forward in the country.

"There’s a lot on my mind," Jacobs said, without offering any hints. "It’s a tough decision. That’s all I’ve got to say … it’s a tough decision because they are all great schools."

Jacobs is a six foot eight inch power forward who weighs around 255 pounds. He averaged 22 points and 12 rebounds a game last season for South Atlanta.

It would be a coup for Georgia to land Jacobs since they just lost out on Milton High Product Julian Royal to rival Georgia Tech.
