The Atlanta Hawks did exactly what they had to do against the Golden State Warriors: run, gun and win. Josh Smith had 22 points and 10 boards and Al Horford added 21 and 15, leading the Hawks to their ninth straight home win with a 103-93 win over the Warriors on Wednesday.

Joe Johnson had 16 points and dished eight assists and Mike Bibby had 15 for Atlanta, which has won four of five overall.

The Hawks halted the Warriors' winning streak at three with the win. Golden State was trying to win four in a row for the first time since Feb. 26-March 4, 2008. Instead they dropped their 11th game of their last 13 away from Oakland.

Atlanta kept the NBA's third-leading scorer under wraps in this one, took away his perimeter game and rolled to the win. Monta Ellis, who was averaging nearly 35 points over his last four games, finished with just nine points on 4-for-13 shooting from the field.

The news wasn't all good for Atlanta, which lost Marvin Williams to a third-quarter injury when he crashed to the Philips Arena floor trying to intercept a pass. The Hawks do not know whether Williams will play on New Year's Eve against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

The Atlanta Hawks look to extend their home winning streak to nine when they take on the Golden State Warriors on Wednesday night at Philips Arena (7:00 PM, SportSouth, 97.9 FM).

The (non Road) Warriors are looking for their first four-game winning streak in nearly three years. But three of those wins have come at home at the Oracle Arena. The other was against the lowly Sacramento Kings – that barley counts for an NBA victory.

Golden State (or Oakland as I like to call them), has dropped 10 of its last 12 away from home. Their only other win during that stretch on the highway came against the Minnesota Timberwolves. So let’s just say they are very ungood on the road. Advantage Atlanta.

The Hawks are coming off of a 95-80 win over the Milwaukee Bucks on Monday. Al Horford lead five Atlanta players into double-figures with 18 points and 12 rebounds.

While Oakland does have a red-hot scoring threat in Monta Ellis, who is averaging nearly 35 points a game over the past four games, they otherwise do not put the Golden in Golden State. The Warriors struggle defensively, allowing an average of 106.3 points a game.

Look for the Hawks to feast on the defensive lapses of an inferior Golden State team and keep the winning drive alive at home.
