Gerald Robinson Jr. and Travis Leslie each scored 17 points while helping lead the Georgia Bulldogs to an 86-64 rout of Mississippi State today at Stegeman Coliseum.

The Bulldogs bounced back after a loss to Tennessee earlier in the week. After being out rebounded by the Volunteers, Georgia had a huge advantage on the glass 48-23 against Mississippi State. The Bulldogs also showed an outstanding touch from long range connecting on 11 3-pointers for the game.

Mississippi State was never any closer than 13 points in the second half as Georgia was able to hold them at bay and match them basket for basket.

Leslie finished with 17 points, six rebounds, and four assists for the Bulldogs while Robinson finished with 17 points, five rebounds, five assists, and three steals for the Bulldogs. Trey Thompkins added 15 points and seven rebounds. Jeremy Price scored 11 points and grabbed five rebounds in the game. Sherrard Brantley came off the bench to bury three 3-point shots while scoring nine points.

Junior guard Dee Bost led Mississippi State with 20 points and Renardo Sidney scored 15 points and grabbed nine rebounds before fouling out late.

Georgia is now 14-4 overall and 3-2 in the SEC. The win puts the Bulldogs just a half a game behind the Florida Gators for the top spot in the SEC's Eastern division. The Gators will visit Athens on Tuesday.

Mississippi State drops to 10-8 overall and 2-2 in the SEC West.

The Georgia Bulldogs basketball team is putting in work for Mark Richt’s football team today, beating up on the Mississippi St. Bulldogs with football recruits looking on. Five-star RB Isaiah Crowell and four-star DT Jonathan Jenkins are among those reportedly in the house, with the crowd chanting Crowell’s name at one point. (For more Dawgs football recruiting, go here.)

But back to the action on the court. The Dawgs led by as many as 17 points before a late first half run, largely engineered by State guard Dee Bost, cut the lead to 11 with about a minute to go.

Georgia is completely dominating the boards, more than doubling up MSU on the glass. Travis Leslie leads with four boards. The Dawgs aren’t shooting much better than the … Dawgs, but are simply giving themselves more opportunities, even though they’ve also coughed it up nine times.

Trey Thompkins, Leslie, and Jeremy Price lead Georgia with eight points each. Another edge: Georgia has made six of its 10 three-point attempts, while Missy State has only hit two of its 10.

Mark Fox's Bulldog basketball team has had a few days to reflect on its disappointing and rather controversial home loss to Tennessee. Today we will see how well they put their time to good use during the break. Despite controversial ending, there were many things that Georgia could have done to prevent themselves from being in that position. They will have to bounce back today against a Mississippi State club that was picked by many to win the SEC's Western division.

Mississippi State has won the last three meetings between itself and Georgia. Last season State overcame a 13-point deficit late to defeat Georgia 72-69 in Starkville. Rick Stansbury club checks in at 10-7 overall and 2-1 in SEC play. They defeated Auburn this past Sunday 85-66 and are riding a a two game winning streak. Senior guard Ravern Johnson leads State in scoring averaging 18.5 points per game.

Georgia comes in at 13-4 overall and 2-2 in a highly competitive SEC East race. If the Bulldogs are to meet their pre-season goal of reaching the National Tournament then they must hold serve at home in conference play.

Tip off is scheduled for 4pm today and can be seen locally on Peachtree TV.
