<p>Iman Shumpert recorded a triple double while helping lead the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets to a 72-57 win over the Virginia Tech Hokies. Georgia Tech outscored Virginia Tech 36-18 in the second half overcoming a three point halftime deficit in the process. The Yellow Jackets remain undefeated at home in conference play winning their third straight ACC game. Georgia Tech finished the game on a 10-0 run giving themselves a cushion after grinding its way through most of the first half. </p>
<p>Georgia Tech's defense allowed the Hokies to shoot 52% from the floor in that first half. Georgia Tech's defense would improve profoundly in the second half as Virginia Tech would finish the game hitting on only 39% of it shots. The Yellow Jackets also did a great job forcing turnovers as Virginia Tech racked up 18 in the loss. Georgia Tech's defense played a big part in turning the Hokies offense stagnant in the second half and clamped down on leading scorer Malcolm Delaney holding him to just eight points on just 3-11 shooting. </p>
<p>For the Yellow Jackets, Iman Shumpert scored 22 points, grabbed 12 rebounds, and dished out 11 assists for the first triple double since 1989 when Kenny Anderson recorded one against Pittsburgh. Shumpert added seven steals defensively and did an outstanding job on Delaney. Brian Oliver came off the bench to score a game high 28 points for the Yellow Jackets connecting on 11-18 shots from the field including four 3-point shots. </p>
<p>Tonight's win evens the Yellow Jackets ACC record at 3-3 and moves them into a tie with Clemson and Virginia Tech for 5th place in the conference. Three of Tech's next four games are at home beginning with Saturday's match-up with Maryland.</p>

<p>Jeff Allen scored 12 points while Victor Davila added 10 points helping stake Virginia Tech to a three point half time lead 39-36 over Georgia Tech in Atlanta. The Hokies have to be pleased to be leading in the game with leading scorer Malcolm Delaney only having scored two points on just 1 of 7 shooting from the field. </p>
<p>For the Jackets, Brian Oliver came off the bench to score 13 points and helped to keep the Yellow Jackets in the game. Iman Shumpert is more than half way to a triple double scoring eight points, grabbing six rebounds, and handing out seven assists. </p>
<p>Both teams shot exceptionally well with Georgia Tech connecting on a blistering 57% of its shots in the first half. Virginia Tech made 52% of its shots. The Yellow Jackets have done a lot of their damage from the perimeter while the Hokies have established an inside game. Georgia Tech connected on 4-11 three point attempts but went 0-3 from the free throw line in the first half. Virginia Tech didn't make a three point basket in the first half going 0-5 but made up part of the difference by going 7 of 8 from the free throw line. </p>
<p>Neither team was able to go on an extended run during the first half. Georgia Tech will have to shore up its interior defense while continuing to push the pace against the Virginia Tech zone in the second half if they hope to pull out a home victory. </p>

<p>The <a class="sbn-auto-link" href="http://www.sbnation.com/ncaa-basketball/teams/georgia-tech-yellow-jackets">Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets</a> (9-9, 2-3 ACC) will look to bounce back from a loss at Virginia tonight at home against Virginia Tech. Tech is undefeated at home in ACC play (2-0) and is 7-2 overall at home. The reoccurring theme at home for the Jackets has been their strong defensive play. The Yellow Jackets held North Carolina and Wake Forrest to a combined 26.8 percent shooting and also forced 36 turnovers. To date, the Yellow Jackets have been unable to duplicate that performance on the road. </p>
<p>The good news for Tech is that they play four of their next five games at home beginning with tonight's match-up with the Hokies. Virginia Tech (13-5, 3-2 ACC) has conference wins over Florida State, Wake Forrest, and Maryland. The Hokies have won three straight games and nine of their last ten contests. </p>
<p>Virginia Tech is led by senior guard <a class="sbn-auto-link" href="http://www.sbnation.com/ncaa-basketball/players/25706/malcolm-delaney">Malcolm Delaney</a> who is averaging 18.9 points per game while shooting 43% from three point range. Senior forward <a class="sbn-auto-link" href="http://www.sbnation.com/ncaa-basketball/players/25698/jeff-allen">Jeff Allen</a> provides the Hokies some inside muscle averaging 11.9 points and 9.3 rebounds per game. </p>
<p>The Yellow Jackets are led by do-everything guard <a class="sbn-auto-link" href="http://www.sbnation.com/ncaa-basketball/players/52219/iman-shumpert">Iman Shumpert</a> who has elevated his game during conference play. Overall Shumpert is averaging 16.5 points, 3.4 assists, and 2.5 steals per game. In conference play, Shumpert is scoring over 18 points a game and recorded a career high 30 points against North Carolina. </p>
<p>Virginia Tech has is 10-3 lifetime against Georgia Tech and is 6-2 as a member of the ACC. </p>
