Mike Bibby officially joined his brother-in-law Eddie House and some dudes named LeBron James and Dwyane Wade on the former best team in the NBA*, the Miami Heat on Wednesday.

But one has a feeling that the story when Bibby talks to reporters for the first time ahead of yet another Heat game against the Orlando Magic on TNT is not going to be that feel-good story about how the veteran passed up $6.2 million in guaranteed money to land in South Beach.

At least some of the conversation is going to be about how Bibby was "disrespected" by the Hawks when he was traded to the lowly Washington Wizards the day before the trade deadline.

"We were in Phoenix and I saw everybody in the organization that day," Bibby told former Sacramento Kings beatwriter Martin McNeal on Tuesday. "I think I deserved the respect to at least tell me they are working on something. They had me come to the team meeting and then one hour before the game, I get a call saying they've worked out a trade.

"They said it's 99 percent done, so don't come to the game."

To add fuel to the fire, Bibby added the following little nugget about how he was used in Atlanta.

"I didn't have the ball in my hands in Atlanta," Bibby told McNeal. "And that's not saying I'm gonna have it in Miami. But I think things will be different."

Say what? Seriously?

Granted, players sometimes need to play with a chip on their shoulder and use whatever the heck they can to motivate their game.

It just boggles my mind that Bibby didn't know he was on the trading block. Atlanta obviously wanted to upgrade on the point. They needed someone who could play defense. Bibby's skills have diminished a bit over time.

But as far as the ball not being in his hands in Atlanta? Are you kidding me? Do you really think ball hog James is going to give you many touches? And that Wade guy, he passes up a lot of shot attempts, too, right? Good luck with that.

It's looking more and more like Mike Bibby will be taking his services to South Beach.

The Miami Heat waived backup PG Carlos Arroyo on Tuesday, paving the way to add Bibby to the fold once they are permitted to do so under league rules.

In fact, many players on the Heat including LeBron James, Mario Chalmers and Dwyane Wade expect to have Bibby starting at point as early as Wednesday. Miami takes on the Orlando Magic on Thursday.

The former Atlanta Hawks point guard was traded to the Washington Wizards in a trade deadline deal that landed Kirk Hinrich and Hilton Armstrong in the ATL. He played a few games with the Wizards, but wasn't interested in spending any more time with a team that's destined for the NBA Lottery.

Instead, Bibby reportedly gave up the final year of his contract -- valued at $6.2 million in order to make a run at a championship.

Bibby, who averaged 9.4 points and 3.6 assists in 56 games with the Hawks this season, could eventually supplant Chalmers as the Heat starter at point guard. Miami would be the fifth franchise for Bibby, who also spent time with the Vancouver Grizzlies, the Sacramento Kings, the Wizards and the Hawks.

Mike Bibby will reach a buyout agreement with the Washington Wizards Monday, according to reports. He could be set to give up his $6.4 million salary in the event of a buyout, and the deadline for making such a move is … well, today.

He may already have a landing spot, though. He reportedly intends to sign with the Miami Heat once the deal goes through, keeping him in the Southeast Division and moving him to a team that will make the NBA playoffs. He’ll also get to square off against his former Atlanta Hawks if all this shakes out as expected, with Miami and Atlanta playing in mid-March.

Bibby was traded by Atlanta to Washington for Kirk Hinrich on Feb. 23. The deal involved several other players, but that was the gist of it. He played all of two games in D.C. before reportedly deciding he’d had enough, scoring two points.

The NBA trade deadline has come and gone and the Atlanta Hawks were amongst the many teams who made moves. Here’s an overview of Atlanta’s trade with the Washington Wizards:

Hawks get:
• G Kirk Hinrich
• F Hilton Armstrong
• Official Release

Wizards get:
• G Mike Bibby
• G Jordan Crawford
• G Maurice Evans
• 2011 first-round pick (from Hawks)

Hawks GM Rick Sund joined Buck & Kincade on WCNN on Friday to give his thoughts on the deal.

On what he thinks Heinrich will bring to the Hawks:

“I think that Kirk is going to bring something to our club that we need. Particularly on the defensive end, we’re not very high in the league in steals, that’s been a negative for us. And again this is an opinion, but I don’t think we’re great in loose balls, maybe some physical toughness. And I think those are part of his forte and resume. You know, he’s made the All Defense Team in his career. He’s 30, he’s a point guard, he’s physically tough, and what stands out in the minds when you think back of Kirk from the fans’ perspective, is the games with Chicago in the playoffs — with Boston last year and in some of the previous years. He’s kind of that tough guy who can make tough shots with the game on the line. He’s certainly a great free throw shooter; he’s certainly a great defender who will lock down on point guards as well as two guards as well as three. So I think he adds a dimension to our club that we’ve been lacking a little bit.”

On the Hawks’ other trade deadline addition, F Hilton Armstrong:

Like most teams, every coach and management group will say you can never have enough bigs. And he’s a big man. Today at the shoot around I was looking at him and he’s big and not just tall. So it gives you some depth, and in the Eastern Conference you’ve got to go through some teams with some big guys. Whether it’s Orlando, whether it’s Bosh in Miami, and who knows with Boston — a lot of their bigs have been hurt. Perkins of course got trade, but Shaq’s been hurt and the other O’Neal has been hurt. But they’re hoping they’ll be ready by playoffs. So the teams ahead of us have some bigs, so you can always use some extra bigs. So I think Hilton gives you a little depth there."

The AJC's Michael Cunningham tweets that the Atlanta Hawks discussed a deal that would have shipped center Zaza Pachulia to the Houston Rockets for center Brad Miller, but that deal fell through, likely marking the end of the Hawks' shopping at the trade deadline.

Unless there's something sitting in the league office that hasn't been acted on yet, it looks like the only move that the Hawks will make is the one that shipped Mike Bibby, Jordan Crawford, Maurice Evans and a first round pick to the Washington Wizards for Kirk Hinrich and Hilton Armstrong on Wednesday.

However, it was a frenzied Wednesday around the rest of the NBA.

The most puzzling move at the deadline involved the defending Eastern Conference Champion Boston Celtics, who shipped starting center Kendrick Perkins and reserve point guard Nate Robinson to the Oklahoma City Thunder for Jeff Green and Nenad Krstic. The Thunder also received Nazr Mohammed in a separated deal with the Charlotte Bobcats for D.J. White and Morris Peterson.

Let's just say that the Thunder are not playing in the West. They're going for it this year.

The Bobcats were not done reversing the trend that sent most stars East, reportedly shipping away Gerald Wallace to the Portland Trail Blazers for Joel Przybilla and reserve Dante Cunningham and a pair of first rounders, however, that deal may still need to be modified as reported to comport with the cap.

Other trades included Baron Davis and a first round pick going from the Golden State Warriors for the Cleveland Cavaliers' Mo Williams and Jamario Moon and Aaron Brooks going from the Houston Rockets to the Phoenix Suns for Goran Dragic and a first round pick.

Deals will continue to trickle through in the next few hours and if the Hawks make a move, we'll be all over it. But for now, it looks like Atlanta didn't get the big man they were looking for at the wire.

While it's not the stuff the biggest NBA trade rumors are made of (head to SB Nation's NBA hub for more on those), Atlanta Hawks center Zaza Pachulia was held out of last night's game against the Phoenix Suns. Joining him on the inactive list were the three players the Hawks actually did trade, Mike Bibby, Jordan Crawford, and Mo Evans.

Could the acquisition of Hilton Armstrong free the Hawks up to deal Pachulia for another position of need? Does the team need three centers, if Armstrong and Jason Collins can hold down the spot on the nights when Al Horford is mercifully allowed to play his actual position?

It's hard to say what the team's specific and immediately addressable needs are at this point, other than center itself, and Pachulia by himself isn't going to fetch a game-changer anyway. All the players the team has reportedly been interested in have been point guards, and trading for Kirk Hinrich would seem to do away with the need to go get another one, unless we're giving up on Jeff Teague entirely.

Your thoughts?

So who is Hilton Armstrong? Besides the other guy the Atlanta Hawks picked up in the trade for Kirk Hinrich? He's in his fifth year out of UConn and has already played for five NBA teams before joining Atlanta, if that tells you anything. A six-foot-11 forward and center, he does provide some more length in the paint for those nights when Zaza Pachulia and Jason Collins aren't getting it done.

Misnomer alert: Armstrong is a good athlete for a big guy, but his arms are not very strong. At only 235 pounds, he's not going to be a full-time center any time soon.

He's averaged 12 minutes per game in the NBA, and has never been much of a scorer. He's pretty good on the boards, bringing in 10 per 36 minutes this season and 7.9 for his career. He's also a decent defensive presence, so long as he doesn't have to guard big centers one-on-one.

He has starting experience, picking up 29 starts for the New Orleans Hornets in 2008-09 and a few spurts at other points along the way.

If you'd told the average Atlanta Hawks fan after the 2010 NBA Draft that Jordan Crawford would be traded away before the end of his first season, you would've been punched in the next. It would not have been a surprised punch in the neck. The punch you would've received in the neck would've been one of knowingness.

That draft's two other picks: one was sold, and one was spent on Pape Sy, currently a member of the Utah Flash. Of course Crawford wasn't long for Atlanta.

We didn't get to see much of him during his time here, but there's no reason to think he won't become a passable shooting guard at some point in his career. For the time being he'll remain known only for dunking on LeBron James, after averaging 10 minutes played in the 16 games during which he was able to see the floor.

He shot only 35 percent -- not ideal at all for a player who's supposed to be able to drive -- and turned in a Win Shares estimate of meh. But with a sample size this slim, it's pretty hard to evaluate what he could've done with more time.

Considering he's going to play for the Washington Wizards, we'll soon get to see what the Hawks missed out on. With only four players on their roster boasting more than five years of experience, they have every reason to let Crawford get some time in live game action.
