A three-run home run by Dan Uggla put the Braves ahead in the sixth, which proved to be the eventual game-winner as the Braves beat the Blue Jays, 5-3.

Jair Jurrjens left the game after the first inning due to side discomfort, but he downplayed it by saying it was precautionary and just side cramps, not the oblique. In any case, it has stirred up injury concerns considering Jurrjens missed a large chunk of games last season due to hamstring and knee problems. He came to camp in better shape and more muscle, and it was said that he would provide better durability, but this casts a bit of a doubt at the moment. We'll have to see how he responds next time out.

In his one inning, Jurrjens received two groundouts and a strikeout of Jose Bautista.

Peter Moylan followed with two scoreless innings. Scott Proctor struggled in his inning of work, allowing three hits and a run on a Bautista homer, not to mention committing an error.

Juan Abreu and Jairo Asencio each pitched a scoreless inning. Todd Redmond allowed a run in three innings of work. After a scoreless seventh, he gave up a triple in the eighth that scored on Lucas' error. He put two on to begin the ninth but received three straight outs to end the game.

The Braves struggled against Blue Jays starter Brett Cecil until the fifth, when they got to him for five runs on RBI singles by Jason Heyward and Brandon Hicks, and a three-run home run by Uggla.

Matt Young reached base three times on a walk, single and error. Ed Lucas went 0-4 with two strikeouts, and he also committed an error at third that brought home a run. Brooks Conrad doubled in his only at bat, while Diory Hernandez failed to reach base in his. Joe Mather added a single and double in his start in left field.

Jair Jurrjens left today's game against the Blue Jays after one inning due to a discomfort in his right side, and was removed as a precaution. Jurrjens set down the top three in the Jays order in the first on two groundouts and a strikeout of Jose Bautista, throwing 12 pitches and seven strikes.

Jurrjens is quickly making a name for himself as an injury scare. He missed a large amount of time last season due to a hamstring injury, and a knee injury sidelined him late in the season and during the playoffs. It was thought he had gained better durability after losing weight and gaining muscle over the winter, but a side issue puts a chink in that one already. Hopefully it's nothing serious. He downplayed it by saying it's nothing more than a cramp and not oblique.

Even so, the Braves are prepared for such situations, as Mike Minor will be waiting in AAA. Today could be the moment of truth for several fringe players, such as Ed Lucas, Matt Young and Cristhian Martinez, as the Braves will announce a few cuts after the game. Frank Wren officially announced Minor to AAA and Brandon Beachy in the rotation.

For what it's worth, Young is 1-3 so far with a single, groundout and reached on error. Lucas is 0-2 with a strikeout and pop out.

Scott Proctor continued his rollercoaster spring with three hits allowed, including a home run to Bautista, and an error committed. I can't help but feel he does not need to be on this team.

Dan Uggla put the Braves ahead in the sixth with a three-run home run off Brett Cecil. That was preceded by RBI singles from Jason Heyward and Brandon Hicks.

The Atlanta Braves travel to Dunedin to play the Toronto Blue Jays today at 1:05.

Braves Lineup:

1. Matt Young, CF

2. Alex Gonzalez, SS

3. Jason Heyward, RF

4. Dan Uggla, 2B

5. Eric Hinske, DH

6. David Ross, C

7. Freddie Freeman, 1B

8. Ed Lucas, 3B

9. Joe Mather, LF

Jair Jurrjens, SP

Seeing Young leading off and playing center field just makes my heart happy today. Whether this is a sign of him earning a job or getting close to one is not known, but this has been a rare sight for Young, and it's coming at a pretty important time.

Also, the same goes for Lucas at third base. While I would like to see him starting at shortstop, having him in the lineup now is key.

The Braves will face Brett Cecil, a left-hander, so having Young leading off is even more important as they give him a few at bats against the southpaw. Same goes for the other lefties in the lineup who haven't seen many southpaws this spring, including Heyward and Freeman.
