Braves starter Jair Jurrjens pitched six innings in a rehab start for AAA Gwinnett on Monday. He allowed two runs on four hits while walking two and striking out three.

After a scoreless first inning, Jurrjens allowed a run in the second when a single set up a RBI double by Nick Green. He followed that with a walk but left both on. He gave up a leadoff walk in the third but the runner was caught stealing.

Jurrjens was met by a solo homer from Nolan Reimold to lead off the fourth. After Josh Bell doubled, Jurrjens set down the next three to strand him at second. He ended the day with a scoreless fifth and sixth.

Jurrjens threw 81 pitches and 48 for strikes in six innings. He had nine groundouts to four flyouts. The four hits in six innings looks good until you see three of the four were for extra bases, but overall it wasn't a bad outing.

Jurrjens' rehab start was the result of a strained oblique suffered during Spring Training. He has yet to make a start in 2011, as Mike Minor made a spot start for him in Milwaukee. With a successful outing tonight, he is on track to make his season debut for Atlanta on Saturday against the Mets.

The Braves have announced starting pitcher Jair Jurrjens won't come off the disabled list until April 16, according to David O'Brien.

Jurrjens officially hit the disabled list Sunday with a strained oblique. He hasn't seen a game since straining the muscle in a Spring Training game March 24. He has thrown two bullpen sessions since, one in Washington on Thursday and one Sunday. Both apparently went well, but the Braves want to be cautious with Jurrjens this early in the year.

Jurrjens will throw three or four simulated innings at AAA Gwinnett on Wednesday, followed by a rehab start the following Monday, hoping to go five or six innings. If all goes well, his target return date is the 16th, a Saturday game against the Mets in Atlanta.

In his place, Mike Minor will receive the spot start April 6 in Milwaukee. The Braves only expect Minor to go one or two starts. An off day April 11 sets up to where Minor will be skipped for his second start.

As expected, Braves pitcher Jair Jurrjens was placed on the 15-day disabled list Sunday with a side injury.

Jurrjens pitched a bullpen session in Washington on Thursday, and he said he felt "good," but the Braves are remaining cautious with the pitcher. He threw all of his pitches during a 30-pitch session.

Jurrjens was hampered by various injuries, including a knee and hamstring injury, in 2010, resulting in missed time in May and the playoffs in October. Jurrjens came into spring camp this year in better shape, losing weight and adding muscle. However, his 2011 season is not getting off on the right foot with this news.

All signs point toward Jurrjens returning to the mound April 9 against the Phillies in Atlanta. The retroactive date allows for him to miss only a couple days from his original season debut of April 6 in Milwaukee.

Mike Minor was called up from AAA to make the spot start April 6 against the Brewers.

All signs point toward Braves starter Jair Jurrjens hitting the disabled list, though it is not official yet.

Jurrjens left a Spring Training game on March 24 after one inning due to side discomfort. He has not pitched since, though he did pitch a bullpen session during the series in Washington that he said went well. The bullpen was 30 pitches, mixing in all of his pitches.

However, it seems likely that the Braves will err on the side of caution and place him on the disabled list. The DL date would be retroactive, so he would be eligible to make an April 9 start against the Phillies in Atlanta as the best case scenario. There is no reason to rush Jurrjens back this early and risk added injury when he could make a start just a few days later.

In Jurrjens' place, Mike Minor would likely get the spot start in Milwaukee on April 6.

Jurrjens came into 2011 with higher expectations following an offseason workout regimen, coming in lighter and stronger. He dealt with various injuries throughout 2010, causing the changes. However, his 2011 isn't getting off to a much better start.
