Angel McCoughtry scored 32 points in just 25 minutes of action as the Atlanta Dream knocked off the Indiana Fever 93-88 to lock down the No. 3 seed in the Eastern Conference on the final day of the WNBA's regular season. After starting the season at 3-9, Atlanta rallied to finish with a 20-14 record and will take on the Connecticut Sun in the first round of the WNBA Playoffs.

After trailing 55-47 at halftime, Atlanta got right back into the game outscoring Indiana 24-16 and tying the game at 71-71 heading to the fourth. From there McCoughtry took control and her three-point basket with 4:31 remaining gave Atlanta a commanding 84-75 lead.

McCoughtry finished with 32 points on 9 of 14 shooting. She was 12 for 14 from the free throw line while also chipping in five rebounds and three blocks. Allison Bales came off the bench to record a double double with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Lindsey Harding chipped in 13 points and four assists.

Katie Douglas led Indiana with 30 points including five three-point baskets. Jessica Davenport added 15 points and nine rebounds while Tangela Smith chipped in 14. Indiana was without MVP candidate Tamika Catchings and point guard Erin Phillips who both sat out the game.

The Dream came into the season with a lot of hype as they came off of last season's WNBA Finals appearance. Early on it looked like they were going to collapse under the weight of that hype and expectations. Enough can't be said for the job that coach Marynell Meadors has done in guiding this team and navigating the WNBA season one game at a time. Now the real quest begins, and it begins with the Atlanta Dream at their best.

With a win, the Atlanta Dream will go from a 3-9 start to the No. 3 seed in the Eastern Conference. Entering today's game, the Dream needed a New York Liberty loss and a win today over the Fever to move out of the fourth seed. Connecticut defeated New York 69-63 earlier but Atlanta is going to have to find out a way to slow down Katie Douglas if they want to leave Indiana with a victory.

With Tamika Catchings and Erin Phillips setting this one out for the Fever, Atlanta got off to a quick start taking a 29-24 lead after one quarter of play. Indiana came roaring back in the second behind Katie Douglas who finished the half with 23 points on 8 of 9 shooting including 5 of 6 from three-point range. The Fever outscored the Dream 31-18 in the quarter and lead 55-47 at the half.

As is often with the Dream, they are going to have to pick up their intensity on the defensive side of the floor. Angel McCoughtry led the way for Atlanta with 12 points. Alison Bales chipped in nine points and eight rebounds off the bench for Atlanta in the first half.

Atlanta's regulars saw fewer minutes than normal in the first half so it remains to be seen whether or not they will make a push for a win and a No. 3 seed in the second half.

Angel McCoughtry and the Atlanta Dream travel to Indiana to close out the regular season and are looking for a season sweep of the Fever in what could be a playoff preview. Tip off is scheduled for 5 p.m. and can be seen on SportSouth.

The Atlanta Dream will be going for a season sweep of the Indiana Fever later this afternoon and clear up the playoff picture in the Eastern Conference. The Fever have clinched the East's top seed but the remaining three teams, Connecticut, New York, and Atlanta, are all within one game of each other.

Indiana has nothing to play for in this afternoon's game and could very well be resting some key players this afternoon as they prepare for the playoffs. After suffering a disappointing start to the season, Atlanta has rebounded in a big way including taking all three regular season match ups against the Fever. A Liberty loss today combined with an Atlanta victory would give Atlanta a first round playoff match up with Connecticut rather than Indiana. Atlanta has won three games in a row and six of their last seven overall.

Angel McCoughtry is the focal point for the Dream and matches up today against another MVP candidate in Indiana's Tamika Catchings. McCoughtry enters today's game second in the league scoring at 21.3 points per game and has scored at least 28 points in her last three of her last five games. Last time out McCoughtry scored 35 points in a win over Connecticut in a remarkable performance.
